Hi, my name is Krista. I come from Latvia, a tiny country in Northern Europe, but already for several years I call Italy my home. When I moved to Italy, I had a pet bunny. In the beginning he was the only vegan in our tiny family. But then after a while also I made the transition from omnivore to vegan. And to be honest – it happened quite fast. It all started with the documentary “Cowspiracy”, followed by another documentary “What the Health?”. After watching both of them, I started to go through many scientific research papers to understand if everything really was so bad as it was shown in the documentaries. Unfortunately, the truth was even worse… I always knew part of the things that go on in slaughterhouses and chicken farms, but, I guess, all the horrible information “served on a plate” at once was the thing that finally pushed me to make the step in favor of the animals, the environment and my own health. Since then, apart from all the physical health benefits, I am finally in peace with myself, because I know that I’m a part of something big and beautiful – of not participating in the completely unnecessary and unjustifiable cruelty on animals and of reducing the damage done to the environment.
Why “Bunny Mommy Cooks”?
In the beginning there were two of us – one who did all the cooking, writing, editing etc. (me), and the other one who simply looked adorable in all the pictures. The other one was Specky – the most wonderful bunny boy that has ever existed. For some years Specky was the soul of this blog and I was his proud mommy, therefore also the name of it – Bunny Mommy Cooks. But then suddenly in November 2020 Specky lost his fight against a nasty illness and became the fluffiest angel bunny in the paradise… However, Specky had a wonderful life: he had never lived in a cage, he had always been loved and taken care of and in the last months of his life he even met his Love – Vanilla! Vanilla was the most beautiful bunny girl who joined our family in July, 2020. In all the old posts you can see Specky, but in some of them you can also find pictures of Vanilla or Vany, as we liked to call her. Unfortunately, shortly after Specky’s death, also Vanilla got very sick and few months later she decided to join her Love in the heaven. Even though it was hard to continue this blog without my fluffy coworkers, my wish to share my passion for vegan food with all of you, animal lovers, somehow kept me going.
What will you find here?
My goal has always been very simple: to offer easy and delicious vegan recipes. It means that for my recipes you won’t need to purchase half of the online stores’ stock to get some funny-named expensive ingredients. I will always try to choose ingredients that can be easily found in regular supermarkets. Some of the recipes will be close to the traditional Latvian or Italian cuisine, most of the recipes will be quick and easy to make and all of the recipes will be vegan. Even if from time to time you will find a recipe that requires an ingredient that is a bit more specific than usual, most of the time you’ll be able to skip it without causing a radical change to the recipe.
So, wait no longer and get your tummy ready for some yummy food!
Krista
